Anamanaguchi To Play Scott Pilgrim Game Soundtrack Live

Time to get your game on.

NYC-based chiptune rockers Anamanaguchi are about to make many gamers very happy. The quintet announced yesterday that for the first time ever they will be performing their beloved soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. As of publication only two dates have been announced, both in California. Anamanaguchi responded to a grumpy fan that more dates will be announced later on. Check out the tour’s poster below, with art done by Aaron Ancheta and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Tickets for the tour are available now on the band’s website.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game first came out in August 2010 digitally to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and then was re-released earlier this year on numerous consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Stadia, and Amazon Luna . The game was a tie-in to the film adaptation of the popular Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley. The film came out that same month and was released by Universal Pictures and directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Last Night In Soho, The Sparks Brothers). Starring in the film were Michael Cera (Juno, Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Sausage Party), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Final Destination 3, Sky High), Anna Kendrick (Into The Woods, Pitch Perfect, Trolls), Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Not Another Teen Movie, Snowpiercer), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel, Hoot, Kong: Skull Island), Aubrey Plaza (Child’s Play, Mike And Dave Need Wedding DatesParks And Recreation), Brandon Routh (Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night, Superman Returns, Zack And Miri Make A Porno), Kieran Culkin (Father Of The Bride, Igby Goes Down, Margaret), Alison Pill (Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen, Hail, Caesar!Milk), and Johnny Simmons (Hotel For Dogs, Jennifer’s Body, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower).

Anamanaguchi released their latest album [USA] in 2019 on Polyvinyl (Charlotte Cornfield, The Get Up Kids, Momma). The band spent 2020 dropping many singles (some featuring Planet 1999 and Jaime Brooks), as well as a cover of American Football’s “Stay Home” and a remix of Porter Robinson’s “Get Your Wish”.

Hum Release First New Album In 22 Years

Hum Release First New Album In 22 Years

They’re back!

Alt-rock/post-hardcore quartet Hum have returned with new material. The 90’s band who reunited in 2015 surprised everyone by dropping their long-awaited fifth album Inlet earlier today on Polyvinyl Record Co. (Anamanaguchi, The Get Up Kids, Jeff Rosenstock). This is the follow-up to their 1998 record Downward Is Heavenward released  on RCA Records (Doja Cat, Tool, Winnetka Bowling League).

From 1991 to 1998, Hum — consisting of vocalist/guitarist Matt Talbott, guitarist Tim Lash, bassist Jeff Dimpsey, and drummer Bryan St. Pere — dropped four fantastic albums before disbanding in 2000. They’re mostly known for their 1995 hit “Stars”, which has been covered by bands like Evergreen Terrace and Bleeding Through.

The band first started working on the album back in 2016, a year after their permanent reunion after a few years of one-off shows at festivals.

James Dewees Leaves The Get Up Kids

James Dewees Leaves The Get Up Kids

Say it ain’t so.

Emo kids were shocked earlier today when The Get Up Kids announced that longtime keyboardist James Dewees would be leaving the band. In a blunt post on social media, the now quartet wrote, “James Dewees is no longer a member of The Get Up Kids.” This news comes prior to their headlining tour which was announced yesterday and will start in November with Kevin Devine and The Whiffs.

So far there’s no reason as to why Dewees is no longer in TGUK. Dewees has yet to make an announcement behind his departure.

Dewees joined the band in 1999 during the recording process of their EP Red Letter Day. He has since appeared on every single album, with his recent appearance being on Problems which came out earlier this year on Polyvinyl Recording Co. (Anamanaguchi, Chris Farren, Pedro The Lion).

Besides being in TGUK, Dewees was a part of several bands as a touring keyboardist, appearing with New Found Glory and My Chemical Romance. He also is the mastermind behind Reggie And The Full Effect, which dropped their latest album 41 last year on Pure Noise Records (The Amity Affliction, Hawthorne Heights, LURK).

The Get Up Kids will be appearing at Riot Fest on Friday, September 13, with The Flaming Lips, Hot Mulligan, and Pennywise. The band will also perform at Every Time I Die’s Christmas show ‘Tid The Season on Saturday, December 14, with Glassjaw, Cave In, and SeeYouSpaceCowboy.
