Periphery, FEVER 333, This Wild Life, More To Play Self Help Fest 2019

Periphery, FEVER 333, This Wild Life, More To Play Self Help Fest 2019

A Day To Remember’s beloved music festival Self Help Fest is returning in 2019 with a killer first wave and some even bigger news.

The first bands have been announced for this year’s festivals which will take place in San Bernardino, Calif., on Saturday, October 12, and for the first time ever in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday, September 7. Joining ADTR in California this year will be I Prevail, Angel Du$t, Periphery, Set Your Goals, and others, and ADTR will have FEVER 333, Whitechapel, This Wild Life, The Acacia Strain, and more, in Massachusetts. Check out the first wave acts below.

Tickets for both shows are available now.

Self Help Fest was created by ADTR in 2014 after vocalist Jeremy McKinnon had a discussion with his girlfriend. “She told me that the most people who come [to our shows] respond like it’s more than just a concert to them,” he told ABC News Radio in 2014. “It’s like the music is genuinely helping them. Thus, we titled our festival Self Help, because at the end of the day that’s what music’s all about.”

Since then, numerous artists like Bring Me The Horizon, The Ghost Inside, Underoath, Mayday Parade, Chiodos, The Story So Far, August Burns Red, Stray From The Path, Can’t Swim, Microwave, Rise Against, Moose Blood, Too Close To Touch, Limp Bizkit, Denzel Curry, Sylar, Streetlight Manifesto, Dance Gavin Dance, and Less Than Jake, have played at several Self Help Fests across the country. Self Help has appeared in places such as Philadelphia in 2014 and 2017, Detroit in 2017 and 2018, and Orlando in 2017.

Nude Shoes Turn Pain Into Pleasure On “Suburban Ceremonies”

Nude Shoes Turn Pain Into Pleasure On “Suburban Ceremonies”

Asbury Park, N.J., has been a breeding ground of incredible talent. Over the years the area has given the world amazing artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Fury Of Five, and Brick + Mortar. And now the region is ready to give us another artist to love.

Insert Nude Shoes, the one man emo/pop-punk band created by Andy Katz. After leaving his previous group Weird And Wonderful Words in 2017, Katz decided to channel in his pain, suffering, and the woes of living with ulcerative colitis into his brand new project Nude Shoes.

What you hear on Nude Shoes’s debut EP Suburban Ceremonies are songs that just drip with pain and hope, composed of honest lyrics with that wonderful emo sound the state has given us time and time again (remember New Jersey gave us some of the finest emo groups in the 2000s like My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail, and Armor For Sleep). It’s raw, powerful, and gives you the hope and perseverance to go on during the hard times.

Suburban Ceremonies starts off with the hard-hitting emotionally filled “Couple’s Jenga”. Katz croons about a failing relationship singing in the chorus “Can’t hold on / I am sick of the straws you keep grasping onto / Moving on / There is nothing left for you here”. Throughout the two and a half minute track, we listen to Katz’s relationship fall apart and moving on from the heartbreak.

“Headache For A Decade” feels like the most personal track on the EP, having Katz open up about his 14 year struggle with ulcerative colitis. If you don’t know what that is, it’s an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the digestive track that are long-lasting. Ulcerative colitis can put someone who has it with a huge risk of getting colon cancer later in life. Now that we have that info out of the way, the track has Katz singing about the intense pain and misery the disease has been giving him “With every med that’s beside my bed/and it’s the nurses hands keep me from this ledge/and I bet/you don’t know what a headache this is/not wanting to wake up alone/but wishing I would wake up dead,” he sings in the song’s intro. “Headache For A Decade” is a sad yet hopeful song backed with a killer State Champs-esque style, and is probably the greatest track out of the four.

“Mental Stencil” starts off with a guitar riff that immediately catches your attention and then eases you into the drums. Much like the EP’s opening number, “Mental Stencil” deals with growing apart in a relationship. Once you dig deep into the lyrics, it’s as clear as crystal what you’re hearing. Katz sings on the track, “You said you wouldn’t but you already did / I don’t feel the same about you anymore.” The song ends with a lovely piano medley played over an acoustic guitar and haunting vocals.

The EP ends with the song “Gamma Jack”, featuring a guitar riff that feels like the intro to some kind of anime. Guitars come in blazing fast, not giving you anytime to recover from the sadness of the previous song. It’s a perfect finisher to the album, blending in classic emo elements with modern emo styles found in Real Friends and Moose Blood.

Overall, Suburban Ceremonies is an emo classic in the making. Katz pours his soul, pain, heart, and hope into each of the four songs on the EP, and you can feel it all from the words coming from his throat. Suburban Ceremonies is a heartfelt album that will make you feel and cry. Katz crafted one of the finest emo albums to come out so far this year. Let’s see how he tops himself on the follow up.

Moose Blood To Go On Break Following Sexual Allegations

Moose Blood To Go On Break Following Sexual Allegations

Another one bites the dust.

After getting booted from Good Charlotte’s upcoming UK tour with Boston Manor, the British emo group announced that they would be going on hiatus.

On a statement posted on Facebook, the band commented about their current situation as well as the “serious false allegations” said about their former drummer Glenn Harvey and vocalist Eddy Brewerton who allegedly stole Twitter user Zoe Maria’s nudes from her phone and sent them to the rest of the band’s WhatsApp group.

Here’s the official statement:

“It breaks our hearts to have to write this but it’s something we need to talk about. We feel as though we can’t stay quiet about this any longer.

We have been condemned in the absence of fact off the back of serious false allegations, and a situation concerning our former drummer. We are genuine, decent human beings who work hard at something we love. We take slight comfort in knowing that the people who do actually know us, knows this to be true. Rumours have escalated beyond belief and it makes us sick to our stomachs that we have been very wrongly labelled with these horrendous, incorrect terms. If certain people actually did their research and knew one ounce of truth about the situation then we would not be in this position. You can’t wrongly label innocent people. Your words have very real effects and consequences. You are part of the problem and the reason why social media can be such a toxic place.

It has been a traumatic past year or so that has left us feeling like we need to step away. We need to concentrate on all the good we have in our lives without constant concern of what may happen next. We need to be around the people we love, and the people that love us, and focus on our health and happiness.

To everybody that has supported us, stood by us, and spoken out on our behalf, we thank you and appreciate you more than you’ll ever know.

You’ll never know the battles people may have going on personally, so please think twice before you try to destroy someone over the internet. Actually consider the words you use and actions you take.

Take care of each other.

Let love win.

Forming in 2012, the British emo group first signed to No Sleep Records (Aviator, Death Of A Nation, Living With Lions) and released their beloved debut record I’ll Keep You in Mind, from Time to Time. Due to the album’s success, Hopeless Records (Afterlife, The Dangerous Summer, Story Untold) signed the group and released two more albums from the band, including their final album I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore in 2018. Moose Blood have toured with acts like The Wonder Years, Lydia, A Day To Remember, Trophy Eyes, and PUP. The group also played the entire Vans Warped Tour in 2015 along with acts like Neck Deep, RiFF RAFF, Metro Station, PVRIS, and ’68.
