Gatsbys American Dream Are Actually Back!

Gatsbys American Dream Are Actually Back!

And it’s for real this time!

Seattle emo-prog act Gatsbys American Dream are reuniting for the first time in over a decade. The band originally existed from 2001 to 2006 before reuniting very briefly in the early 2010s. But now they’re back…again!

The band caused a massive stir on social media when they updated their profile picture and banner with a whole new band photo. People couldn’t believe that GAD were finally returning. They then began teasing big news coming Wednesday, with that being their first show since 2012. The show will take place Friday, April 28, at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 am PST/1 pm EST at teragramballroom.com.

Gatsbys Amreican Dream formed in 2001 in Seattle, Wash., creating four albums in total, two with Rocketstar Recordings and the last with Fearless Records (As It Is, Movements, Scotty Sire). Throughout their career, GAD have toured and performed with bands like Action Action, Portugal. The Man and Copeland, and played the Vans Warped Tour twice, in 2005 on the Smartpunk.com Stage with Armor For Sleep, Darkest Hour and Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and 2011 for one day only on the Nintendo 3DS Stage with Family Force 5, I Set My Friends On Fire and Relient K.

The band reunited back in 2010 with a secret performance during a show with Forgive Durden. They dropped two new tracks with Equal Vision Records (Anberlin, Hot Water Music, Shallow Pools) called “Modern Man” and “Born Dead” (later retitled as “Untitled” following the 2011 Yunnan earthquake) and that was it. Soon, the troupe vanished come early 2013 after frontman Nic Newsham tweeted that their reunion album was unfinished and would probably remain that way. Various members would go on to make several other projects, such as Kay Kay And His Weathered Underground, Places And Numbers, The Money Pit, Wild Orchid Children, and Marrakesh.

Welcome back, Gatsbys. We’ve missed you.

Real Friends Are Back!

Real Friends Are Back!

Sad boy summer is off to a great start!

Beloved pop-punk act Real Friends are back with a brand new lineup. After announcing the departure of longtime vocalist Dan Lambton last February, Real Friends remained mostly quiet, until now.

Minutes before midnight on the summer solstice, the Tinley Park quintet posted some new photos with their new vocalist, Cody Muraro, formerly of Youth Fountain (who were featured in the 2019 edition of Prenatt’s Picks). The band then dropped two songs, “Nervous Wreck” and “Storyteller”. These songs are the first new tracks by the band since their cover of Slipknot’s “Duality” which appeared in RockSound‘s Worship And Tributes Vol. II back in 2019. Check out the new songs below.

Both tracks are available now on Pure Noise Records (Action/Adventure, Microwave, The Spill Canvas). This is the first release from the group to not be released on their longtime label Fearless Records (August Burns Red, Movements, Scotty Sire), who they signed with back in 2013.

Katy Perry Evolves With Her Pokémon In New Song “Electric”

Katy Perry Evolves With Her Pokémon In New Song “Electric”

Popstar/Warped Tour alum Katy Perry shares her Pokémon inspired track “Electric”.

The song was teased all the way back in January during a video celebrating the video game franchise’s 25th anniversary. In the video only a brief snippet of the chorus appeared at the very end. Check out the video below.

Perry, who’s a lifelong fan of the games, said in a statement, “When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes—resilience, igniting your inner light—have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”

Check out the music video below.

“Electric” was written by Katy Perry, Jon Bellion, Lucas Marx, Oliver Peterhof, Rachel Kanner, Bruce Wiegner, and Jordan Johnson and Stefan Johnson of The Monsters & Strangerz, and was produced by German (Camila Cabello, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5), The Monsters & Strangerz (5 Seconds Of Summer, Hey Violet, Zedd) and Bruce Wiegner (Garrett Watts, Scotty Sire, Zane Hijazi).

The song will appear on Pokémon 25: The Album, a 14-track compilation starring 11 Universal Music Group artists, with Post Malone and J Balvin being the only other artists who’ve been publicly announced for the project. It comes out sometime this fall on Capitol Records (Catfish And The Bottlemen, Halsey, Paul McCartney).
