Katy Perry Evolves With Her Pokémon In New Song “Electric”

Popstar/Warped Tour alum Katy Perry shares her Pokémon inspired track “Electric”.

The song was teased all the way back in January during a video celebrating the video game franchise’s 25th anniversary. In the video only a brief snippet of the chorus appeared at the very end. Check out the video below.

Perry, who’s a lifelong fan of the games, said in a statement, “When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes—resilience, igniting your inner light—have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”

“Electric” was written by Katy Perry, Jon Bellion, Lucas Marx, Oliver Peterhof, Rachel Kanner, Bruce Wiegner, and Jordan Johnson and Stefan Johnson of The Monsters & Strangerz, and was produced by German (Camila Cabello, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5), The Monsters & Strangerz (5 Seconds Of Summer, Hey Violet, Zedd) and Bruce Wiegner (Garrett Watts, Scotty Sire, Zane Hijazi).

The song will appear on Pokémon 25: The Album, a 14-track compilation starring 11 Universal Music Group artists, with Post Malone and J Balvin being the only other artists who’ve been publicly announced for the project. It comes out sometime this fall on Capitol Records (Catfish And The Bottlemen, Halsey, Paul McCartney).

The Strokes, Bring Me The Horizon, Ghostemane, More To Play Lollapalooza 2019

It’s that time of year again.

Popular music festival Lollapalooza have unveiled the artists set to play this year in Chicago. And while the festival might be steering clear of its rock roots, it does have an interesting lineup for this year.

Headlining the four-day event will be pop singer Ariana Grande, rapper Childish Gambino, Ohio alt-rap duo twenty one pilots, and rock band The Strokes. Others set to perform include Bring Me The Horizon, Against The Current, Joji, Ghostemane, nothing,nowhere., AJR, Bad Suns, Hozier, (Sandy) Alex G, Japanese Breakfast, Chevelle, Lil Wayne, Tame Impala, Slenderbodies, Beach Bunny, Diesel (Shaquille O’Neal), Hobo Johnson & The LoveMakers, Fitz And The Tantrums, Death Cab For Cutie, and Tenacious D, just to name a few. Created back in 1991, Lollapalloza originally was Jane’s Addiction’s farewell tour. The festival ran until 1997 and came back in 2003. 2004’s festival was cancelled but it came back annually in 2005. Artists who’ve played the festival in the past include Body Count, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, Green Day, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, 311, Snoop Dogg, Incubus, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Panic! At The Disco, Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails, Kesha, AFI, Eminem, Bloc Party, Vampire Weekend, Portugal. The Man, Brand New, Die Antwoord, Machine Gun Kelly, and Bruno Mars.

Ariana Grande, CHON, Turnstile, More To Play Coachella

Today the 20th Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival announced this year’s lineup, packed with artists and musicians of multiple genres. Genres like Latin (Bad Bunny, Mon Laferte, Rosalía), alternative (The 1975, CHVRCHES, Weezer), rap (Playboi Carti, Jaden Smith, YG), EDM (Aphex Twin, Diplo, Ross From Friends), pop (BLACKPINK, Billie EIlish, Jain), R&B (Khalid Ella Mai, Solange), and others, will appear at the two weekend festival.

Headlining this year’s festival are rapper Childish Gambino, Australian psychedelic rock group Tame Impala, and pop star Ariana Grande. Gambino will headline Friday, April 12 and 19, TI will headline Saturday, April 13 and 20, and Grande will headline Sunday, April 14 and 21. Other bands that will appear during the weekends are Turnstile, King Princess, JPEGMAFIA, The Frights, Kero Kero Bonito, Mac DeMarco, Sabrina Claudio, Turnover, CHON, Superorganism, Kaytranada, boy pablo, Soccer Mommy, Alice Merton, and 070 Shake.

Kanye West was apparently supposed to headline one of the days, but pulled out at the last minute. The 40×60 stages were apparently “artistically limiting,” a source told TMZ. “These 40×60 stages are so archaic. It’s the same type of stage on which Shakespeare’s works were performed hundreds of years ago.”

Another interesting fact about today is the mysterious group Gucci Gang. Named after the song by rapper Lil Pump, no one has heard about the group until today. When Coachella’s website showed a picture of Gucci Gang, the image was of Atlanta based rapper Gucci Mane. Some thought it was a typo, but it wasn’t. Turns out it’s a supergroup made up of Mane, Pump, and Chicago rapper Smokepurpp.

Kendrick Lamar, Between The Buried And Me, Fall Out Boy, More Nominated For Grammys In 2019

Music’s biggest night has unveiled the artists who are nominated for next year’s award show.

The 61st Grammy Awards have released the artists nominated for the Grammys, and the lineup is filled with several famous artists ranging from rap (Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Cardi B), pop (Shawn Mendes, Zedd, Bebe Rexha), rock (Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Greta Van Fleet), and metal (Between The Buried And Me, Deafheaven, Underoath).

The award show was blasted last year for having a not so diverse lineup featuring little to no women. But it seems that will be changing next year. As Variety wrote, “Looking at the four main categories, 5 out of 7 Album of the Year nominees are female artists (the 8th is the Lamar-helmed multi-artist “Black Panther” soundtrack); 6 of the 8 nominees for Best New Artist are female; 5 of the 8 nominees for Song of the Year are by female artists or co-billed with male artists; 5 of the 8 nominees for Record of the year have at least one female songwriter.”

Some of the biggest surprises for nominations include Bring Me The Horizon and Twenty One Pilots fighting over Best Rock Song, Fever 333 nominated for Best Rock Performance, and Underoath’s second Grammy nomination (their first was back in 2006 for Best Short Form Music Video for “Writing On The Walls”).

The 61st Grammys takes place February 10, 2019, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., at 8 p.m. est on CBS.
