Juice WRLD Dead At 21

Juice WRLD Dead At 21

Young rapper Juice WLRD has passed away. He was 21.

The Chicago born rapper whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins died after suffering a seizure this morning at Chicago Midway airport, according to TMZ.

TMZ reported that the rapper “was still conscious when he was rushed to a hospital. However, he was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.”

Juice WLRD first gained prominence with his 2018 single “Lucid Dreams,” which sampled Sting’s 1993 song “Shape Of My Heart.” He would later sign with Interscope Records (BLACKPINK, Louis The Child, Playboi Carti,) dropping two albums. His latest was Death Race For Love, released back in March.

The rapper collaborated with artists like Travis Scott, RM and Suga of BTS, Lil Yatchy, Ellie Goulding, and Future, with the latter teaming up to create the mixtape Wrld On Drugs. He’s toured with Ski Mask The Slump God, YBN Cordae, and Nicki Minaj, and performed at festivals like Made In America 2019 (Cardi B, Dominic Fike, Rosalía,) Camp Flog Gnaw 2019 (The Internet, Solange, Tyler, The Creator,) and Reading And Leeds 2019 (The 1975, Charli XCX, You Me At Six.)

What’s eerie about his passing is that he apparently predicted his young death in his song “Legends.” In the track he raps, “What’s the 27 Club? We ain’t making it past 21.”

Several musicians like Billy Martin of Good Charlotte, Andrew McGuire of Afterlife, and Zedd, tweeted their reactions and thoughts after hearing of his death.

Prior to his passing, Higgins was facing a lawsuit from defunct pop-punk outfit Yellowcard, who said “Lucid Dreams” was copying “melodic elements” from their 2006 song “Holly Wood Died.” They were suing the rapper for $15 million. Yellowcard’s attorney Richard Busch issued a statement reading:

“This was not a lawsuit [Yellowcard] wanted to file. They put all of the parties on notice a long while ago and gave them every opportunity to try to resolve it. That notice was pretty much ignored leaving them with no real choice. As alleged in the Complaint, this is not just a generic Emo Rap song, but is a blatant copy of significant  original compositional elements of “Holly Wood Died” in several respects. Beyond that, everything we have to say is in the Complaint.”

Rest In Peace Juice WRLD.

Ariana Grande, CHON, Turnstile, More To Play Coachella

Ariana Grande, CHON, Turnstile, More To Play Coachella

Today the 20th Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival announced this year’s lineup, packed with artists and musicians of multiple genres. Genres like Latin (Bad Bunny, Mon Laferte, Rosalía), alternative (The 1975, CHVRCHES, Weezer), rap (Playboi Carti, Jaden Smith, YG), EDM (Aphex Twin, Diplo, Ross From Friends), pop (BLACKPINK, Billie EIlish, Jain), R&B (Khalid Ella Mai, Solange), and others, will appear at the two weekend festival.

Headlining this year’s festival are rapper Childish Gambino, Australian psychedelic rock group Tame Impala, and pop star Ariana Grande. Gambino will headline Friday, April 12 and 19, TI will headline Saturday, April 13 and 20, and Grande will headline Sunday, April 14 and 21. Other bands that will appear during the weekends are Turnstile, King Princess, JPEGMAFIA, The Frights, Kero Kero Bonito, Mac DeMarco, Sabrina Claudio, Turnover, CHON, Superorganism, Kaytranada, boy pablo, Soccer Mommy, Alice Merton, and 070 Shake.

Kanye West was apparently supposed to headline one of the days, but pulled out at the last minute. The 40×60 stages were apparently “artistically limiting,” a source told TMZ. “These 40×60 stages are so archaic. It’s the same type of stage on which Shakespeare’s works were performed hundreds of years ago.”

Another interesting fact about today is the mysterious group Gucci Gang. Named after the song by rapper Lil Pump, no one has heard about the group until today. When Coachella’s website showed a picture of Gucci Gang, the image was of Atlanta based rapper Gucci Mane. Some thought it was a typo, but it wasn’t. Turns out it’s a supergroup made up of Mane, Pump, and Chicago rapper Smokepurpp.

Presale tickets go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. Festival passes can be purchased right here.

Good Charlotte, Underoath, Playboi Carti, More To Give Free Admission To Voters On Election Day

Good Charlotte, Underoath, Playboi Carti, More To Give Free Admission To Voters On Election Day

We’re 12 days away from Election Day and if you’re still not convinced on voting, this should change your mind.

#iVoted will be giving out free tickets to 78 shows across the country if you show that you’ve voted on November 6. Numerous acts are participating with the voice turnout initiative, such as Good Charlotte, Ty Segall, Underoath, Drive-By Truckers, Playboi Carti, and Like Pacific. Other acts like Chase Atlantic, boygenius, Iron & Wine, Fucked Up, and Hoobastank will be doing shows with #iVoted. The full list of shows can be found here.

Rolling Stone wrote that “Each of the participating concerts will grant free entrance to the first 50 to 200 fans who provide photos of themselves outside their respective polling places. For concerts that already have free entry, eligible voters will receive complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.”

The #iVoted initiative was created by entrepreneur Emily White along with Mike Luba from Madison House and Pat Sansone of Wilco and The Autumn Defense due to the dismal voting turnout in 2016. White told Billboard that “We want to do this every national election day for forever.”

Not all states will be participating. For the full list, check out #iVoted’s website.
