Destroy Boys

Hometown: Sacramento, CA

Out Now: Fences – Single (Uncool)

For Fans Of: FIDLAR, Skating Polly, Tacocat

If Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is a huge fan of your work, then you’re doing everything right. Sacramento punk rockers Destroy Boys are carrying the riot girl banner that was raised back in the 90’s from bands like L7 and Bikini Kill. Influenced by everyone from Operation Ivy to Lady Gaga, the trio write “Tales of misanthropic school days, elitist parties and drunken frat boy shaming barely scratch the surface of the vision into their world.” The trio are signed to Uncool Records, the label created by the band SWMRS, and have done shows with Hobo Johnson & The LoveMakers, The Garden, and PUP. They’ll appearing on this year’s Sad Summer Fest alongside All Time Low, Movements, and The Story So Far.

Go For Gold

Hometown: Conway, AR

Out Now: Let Me Go – Single (InVogue)

For Fans Of: In Her Own Words, Like Pacific, Seaway

Who knew that Arkansas could give us something so good? Hailing from Conway, Go For Gold deliver you that classic early 2010’s pop-punk vibe that Warped Tour craved. Amy Albinson from Discovered Magazine said about the band, “Reminiscent of teenage years with a stream of consciousness lyrical style, their energy is infectious as they remain relentlessly hopeful, suggesting that maybe you can just dance all over your problems.” Last year they signed with InVogue Records (Assuming We Survive, Heart To Heart, Secret Eyes) and will drop their new EP Color Me on May 15.

Sadfields

Hometown: Mexico City, Mexico

Out Now: Sofocar – Single (Buen Dia)

For Fans Of: A Place To Bury Strangers, Ceremony, Ringo Deathstarr

Sadfields might be making noise in their city of Mexico City and beyond, but in the U.S., we aren’t listening. Let me change that. Influenced by Pornography-era The Cure and A Place To Bury Strangers (who they opened up for once,) alt-noise rock trio Sadgirls have a captivating tone while causing chaos on stage. The three lads — guitarist/vocalist Daniel Espinoza, bassist Miguel Flores and drummer Erick Román — got together in the fall of 2015 and have been rocking out since. Their lyrics are emotionally packed and their noise evokes discordance and beauty. If you like bands such as The Cure and Ride, you’ll love Sadfields.

Peach Pit

Peach Pit

Hometown: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Out Now: Shampoo Bottles – Single (Columbia)

For Fans Of: Beach Bunny, Declan McKenna, Slaughter Beach, Dog

This isn’t bubblegum pop, it’s chewed bubblegum pop. That’s what indie pop quartet Peach Pit call themselves. The Canadian band formed in 2014 when lead vocalist/guitarist Neil Smith and lead guitarist Chris Vanderkooy, who were friends in high school, decided to work on a musical project together. They then added bassist Peter Wilton and drummer Mikey Pascuzzi shortly afterwards. Peach Pit first got some recognition when their self-titled single went viral in 2016. Since then, they’ve released several singles, one EP, and two full-length records, their newest one You And Your Friends comes out April 16 via Columbia Records (645AR, Blink-182, Foster The People.) Speaking of You And Your Friends, the album was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer John Congleton (Best Coast, Explosions In The Sky, Kimbra.) They’re embarking on a North American tour next month with Sun Seeker and Hailey Blais.

lyonestates

Lyon Estates

Hometown: Selby, North Yorkshire, UK

Out Now: Welcome To The Family – EP (Side Mission)

For Fans Of: Man Overboard, The Starting Line, WSTR

Named after the subdivision that Marty McFly lives in in the Back To The Future series, Lyon Estates are a pop-punk band who love pop culture. With songs named after references from The Simpsons and Back To The Future, their loves knows no bounds. “Lyon Estates came together as a bunch of friends who all lived in the same dreary northern town,” bassist Rich Harrison told Discovered Magazine.  “We didn’t really have any sort of plans except to just jam out some songs and play a few hometown shows.” Not only do they love pop culture, they also love charity. In 2018, they raised money for Safe Gigs For Women and Independent Domestic Abuse Services by creating a tee with 100% of the profits split between the both of them. They’ve done shows with This Time Next Year, Calling All Captains, Room 94, Woes, and MxPx. Lyon Estates dropped their new EP Welcome To The Family last October.

Chamber

Hometown: Nashville, TN

Out Now: Ripping/Pulling/Tearing (Pure Noise)

For Fans Of: Disembodied, Sanction, Zao

Nashville’s Chamber are “one of the most technically pugnacious hardcore bands around.” That’s what Revolver called them. Formed in 2017, the quintet have been hitting hard, even with some roadblocks (the band parted ways with ex-vocalist Sam Fleming who now fronts Incendiary.) They dropped their debut Ripping/Pulling/Tearing last year on Pure Noise Records (The Amity Affliction, First Blood, Reggie And The Full Effect.) Chamber have toured with The Acacia Strain, Counterparts, Gideon, Old Wounds, and Year Of The Knife. If you’re looking for something heavy to get you out of your self-quarantine rut or just need a band that reminds you of Zao, listen to Chamber.

sleeptoken

Sleep Token

Hometown: London, UK

Out Now: Sundowning (Spinefarm)

For Fans Of: The Contortionist, Thomas Giles, Hozier

It’s time for worship. Sleep Token are an anonymous band who’s names are not important for us to know of, except vocalist Vessel. His haunting, powerful voice helps spread the band’s message of reintroducing the world to the forgotten god known as “Sleep.” The god is crudely called that because modern tongues cannot pronounce his name. While they’re known in the UK, it’s time for us to be woke to their beauty and message. Worship with us. Later this summer they’ll appear at festivals like Mad Cool, Sunstroke, and Download.

Fate’s Got A Driver

Hometown: Amityville, NY

Out Now: Fate’s Got A Driver – EP (Self-Released)

For Fans Of: Glassjaw, Lifetime, Texas Is The Reason

Does Fate’s Got A Driver’s guitarist look familiar? That’s because it’s Taking Back Sunday’s former guitarist Eddie Reyes. Formed in 2018, FGAD sound like a darker TBS, heading towards a Deftones-ish style. They dropped their self-titled EP last November. Expect more from them later this year.

guardin

Hometown: Hornell, NY

Out Now: creature, Pt. 2 (Photo Finish)

For Fans Of: guccihighwaters, Fats’e, Lil Peep

guardin is the genre-bending emo-rap project hailing from the mind of Western New Yorker Nicholas Kerr. Signed to Photo Finish Records, the label that once housed 3OH!3 and MisterWives, guardin creates music for everyone. He’s already gained success with touring with gnash and Mallrat and having his music appear on Alternative Press. Music was a major part of his life, starting music at an early age, picking up the guitar at 9. He then dabbled with piano and drums, wearing out the heads after owning a kit for two years. At 12, he began writing songs with his acoustic guitar, and it all spiraled right there. “I usually record a handful of freestyled melodies over a beat to figure out a base structure, and use that to help me craft sort of a walking stick for my writing,” guardin said in a press release. “I’ll usually write a hook and a verse, and then come back to it later once my mind is in a new place so my verses feel welldifferentiated. From there, I add in separate layers such as ad libs or backing vocals to really fill it out and bring the track to life.” He’s doing a show with guccihighwaters in May.

So far the band have dropped two EPs and several singles, their newest track “Run” came out on March 20. They’ve toured with Polaris, Stray Form The Path, Trash Talk, While She Sleeps, and The Brave. Lizzy Farrall

Hometown: Chester, UK

Out Now: Barbados – EP (Pure Noise)

For Fans Of: The 1975, Hayley Williams, Taylor Swift

Who knew that switching from being a singer-songwriter to a pop artist would work out so well? Lizzy Farrall is currently riding off the success of her 2019 EP Barbados, a major change in her style. Dropping her Jetty Bones-esque vibes for something that could be heard on alternative stations sandwiched between the likes of The Neighbourhood and Bastille was the best thing that could ever happen to Farrall. And while her music is now rooted in alt-pop, it’s not stopping her from leaving the music scene, doing shows with Trash Boat, Aaron West And The Roaring Twenties, Tiny Moving Parts, Four Year Strong, and The Story So Far. Hell, she was one of the few woman performers at last year’s Slam Dunk Festival, hoping to inspire more interest in female performers (it’s 2020 folks, c’mon.) But it doesn’t hurt her if she plays with Lights and He Is We. She’s not pigeonholing herself to staying in the minor leagues. Look out world, here comes Lizzy.

Do you miss the old metalcore sound of the early 2000s? Reminisce no more, because Kill The Lights are here. Made up of four veteran metalheads — vocalist James Clark (ex-Throw The Fight,) guitarists Jordan Whelan (Still Remains) and Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal,) and legendary drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas (ex-Bullet For My Valentine) — Kill The Lights are here to give you the finest metalcore the world has ever seen. They signed with Fearless Records (As It Is, Locket, Parting Gift) in late January 2020, dropping a new song called “Shed My Skin.” They played Download Festival in 2019 alongside Periphery, Northlane, and Polyphia.

Lil Xtra

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Out Now: Under The Weather – Single (Hopeless)

For Fans Of: 93FEETOFSMOKE, Fats’e, nothing,nowhere.

Atlanta has given us several successful rappers like Gucci Mane, Future, and the hip-hop duo OutKast. And now the city has gifted us another one: Lil Xtra. This emo rapper who’s real name is Clayton Roney started making music after receiving a shoulder injury from playing hockey and baseball as a teen. Clayton then began using his frustration and pain to create Lil Xtra. Since 2016, he has released numerous singles and two full-length albums. Clayton signed with pop-punk label Hopeless Records (Between You & Me, Have Mercy, Sylar) in late 2019, making him the second emo rapper on the label. He just wrapped up a tour with dying in designer earlier this month.

Farewell Jupiter

Hometown: Buffalo, NY

Out Now: Spineless – EP (Self-Released)

For Fans Of: Dayshell, Make Them Suffer, Tear Out The Heart

Starting off as a solo project in 2017, local metalcore act Farewell Jupiter, created by Greg Buczkowski, are ready for anything. Now with bassist Thomas Fritton and drummer Adam Bretherton from Out Last (you know, the meme band,) he’s ready to make Farewell Jupiter shine not just in the local metal scene, but for the world to see. ” I had an engineer write the record while teaching me and helping me build an in home studio so I could take over the writing and production,” frontman Buczkowski reminisced. They’ve done shows with Out Last, In Vein, Soma Slumber, Dragged Under, and Lakeshore. 2020 will bring us a new EP from the trio as well as some more shows.

DAY6

Hometown: Seoul, South Korea

Out Now: The Book of Us: Entropy (JYP Entertainment)

For Fans Of: 5 Seconds Of Summer, All Time Low, N.Flying

Never did I ever think I’d live to see the day that Alternative Press would put a K-Pop band on the cover of their magazine. Shocked, I decided to look up DAY6, and they’re pretty good. Why? Because it’s K-Pop-Punk. Mixing in elements of early 5 Seconds Of Summer and Dirty Work-era All Time Low, the five boys that make up DAY6 create music that would work for a Warped Tour crowd. Oh, and unlike most boy bands, they play instruments. So that’s a plus one. DAY6 have released four albums so far, their latest being The Book of Us: Entropy in 2019, embarked on three headlining tours across the globe, and won two awards at the 2018 Genie Music Awards. Who knows, maybe 2020 will be the year America tunes its ears to DAY6.

Hero The Band

Out Now: Back To Myself – EP (Lava/Republic)

For Fans Of: AWOLNATION, New Politics, Thirty Seconds To Mars

If you had to give Hero The Band a specific genre to label their music, you would be thinking until the end of time. The four biological brothers behind the Decantur, GA, quartet have been influenced by everyone from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden to The Fray and Rush. Hero The Band quickly bounce around from classic R&B to radio friendly alt-rock. Starting in 2010, the band of brothers have been working hard dropping three albums independently before signing with major labels Lava Records (Andy Black, Greta Van Fleet, Lorde) and Republic Records (88GLAM, Glass Animals, Of Monsters And Men) to drop their EP Back To Myself. Through the power of music, the Barnett brothers are trying to make the world a better place, one song at a time. They’ll be appearing at numerous festivals this year including Epicenter (Agnostic Front, Killstation, Nascar Aloe,) Shaky Knees (Beach Bunny, Jawbox, Portugal. In the three years since Morgan Murphy, the man behind the name guccihighwaters, created his rap project, he has released numerous singles and the popular full-length Post Death. Not only that, but he got to tour with nothing, nowhere. and Against The Current. Oh, and he caught the attention of Epitaph Records (Architects, The Garden, Off With Their Heads,) signing with the punk label in late December 2019. Out Now: Break The Bottle – Single (Self-Released)

For Fans Of: Ballyhoo!, Pepper, Slightly Stoopid

Reggae punks Daze Ago almost went as quickly as they came, going on a hiatus over the summer. That barely lasted when they surprised us with the track “Break The Bottle.” Mixing in the best elements of Sublime with Pepper, these Buffalonians are here to brighten up your day and get you dancing the blues away. They’ve played with Reggie Childs, Toy Box Brigade, and Sons Of Texas. Check them out, you won’t regret it.

Out Now: The Kids Are Alright – EP (Elektra)

For Fans Of: Billie Eilish, Mallrat, SHAED

If you listen to the radio, chances are you heard a song called “Dance Monkey.” The lyrics are overall catchy and it just sounds so damn good. And that song was made by Toni Watson aka Tones And I. But believe it or not, her manager didn’t want that song as a single. But here we are now talking about her and her catchy tune. The song was so successful that she ended up winning four awards at the ARIA Music Awards in 2019. And if you listen to the rest of her debut EP The Kids Are Alright, you’ll know that Watson isn’t going nowhere fast.

The White Noise To Break Up, Announce Final Show

The White Noise To Break Up, Announce Final Show

After nine years and a name change, The White Noise will wrap things up by the end of the year.

The Texan post-hardcore group announced earlier that they will be performing one final show in their hometown of Dallas, Texas. “Our final show as a band will be December 15th, 2018 @ The Door in Dallas Texas,” the group wrote in their brief statement. Local acts Humannequin and Begotten will play. Tickets are available here.

Originally known as Set The Sun, the group went under multiple member changes, leaving vocalist David Southern as the sole member of the band. He recruited new members and replaced their old metalcore sound with post-hardcore in the same vein as The Used and AFI. In 2015, they changed their name to The White Noise and signed to Fearless Records (Grayscale, The Plot In You, Set It Off), releasing the EP Aren’t You Glad? in 2016 and their only full-length AM/PM in 2017. They’re known for their songs “The Best Songs Are Dead” and “Picture Day”.

The White Noise have toured with bands like Sleeping With Sirens, Anti-Flag, Dance Gavin Dance, Upon A Burning Body, and Enter Shikari. The group played Warped Tour three times, twice under their old name in 2012 and 2013 and played the whole tour last year on the Skullcandy Stage with Microwave, Never Shout Never, and Alestorm. They appeared at the 2016 So What?! Music Festival, performing the same day with acts like Citizen, Hawthorne Heights, The Contortionist, Polyphia, and Limbs.
