Katy Perry Evolves With Her Pokémon In New Song “Electric”

Popstar/Warped Tour alum Katy Perry shares her Pokémon inspired track “Electric”.

The song was teased all the way back in January during a video celebrating the video game franchise’s 25th anniversary. In the video only a brief snippet of the chorus appeared at the very end. Check out the video below.

Perry, who’s a lifelong fan of the games, said in a statement, “When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic. It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes—resilience, igniting your inner light—have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”

Check out the music video below.

“Electric” was written by Katy Perry, Jon Bellion, Lucas Marx, Oliver Peterhof, Rachel Kanner, Bruce Wiegner, and Jordan Johnson and Stefan Johnson of The Monsters & Strangerz, and was produced by German (Camila Cabello, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5), The Monsters & Strangerz (5 Seconds Of Summer, Hey Violet, Zedd) and Bruce Wiegner (Garrett Watts, Scotty Sire, Zane Hijazi).

The song will appear on Pokémon 25: The Album, a 14-track compilation starring 11 Universal Music Group artists, with Post Malone and J Balvin being the only other artists who’ve been publicly announced for the project. It comes out sometime this fall on Capitol Records (Catfish And The Bottlemen, Halsey, Paul McCartney).

Sharptooth Announce New Album, Parody Kesha and Lady Gaga In New Video

Sharptooth Announce New Album, Parody Kesha and Lady Gaga In New Video

Hardcore quintet Sharptooth have announced info on their long-awaited sophomore album.

The record called Transitional Forms comes out July 10 on Pure Noise Records (LURK, Strike Anywhere, Year Of The Knife.) Pre-orders are available now. The album features an appearance from Anti-Flag frontman Justin Sane.

To celebrate, the band dropped a music video for the album’s second single “Say Nothing (In The Absence Of Consent)”. In the video, the band parody several artists like Kesha, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry. The goal of the video is to tackle toxic hypermasculinity.

“I wanted to take the sonic aspects of a genre that is so rooted in hypermasculinity—often to the point of toxicity—and steep it in things that a lot of culture looks down on, and that I absolutely happen to adore: femininity and mainstream pop music,” vocalist Lauren Kashan told Alternative Press.

Maroon 5 Finally Confirmed To Play The Super Bowl, Will Be Joined By Two Rappers

Looks like Variety was right.

The NFL finally confirmed on Sunday that Maroon 5 will headline Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, Ga. The pop group will take the center stage during the Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show on February 3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Maroon 5 celebrated the news by posting a video on their Instagram.

Joining Maroon 5 will be rapper Travis Scott and Atlantan rapper Big Boi who is one half of rap duo OutKast. Artists like P!nk, Rihanna, and Cardi B were scheduled to appear alongside the pop band, but dropped out in support of ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (P!nk dropped out when negotiations between her and the NFL fell through). According to Billboard, Scott only agreed to play if the NFL did something for him. “Scott required the NFL to make a joint donation to an organization fighting for social justice in order for him to move forward with the event,” a source close to Billboard said.

Performers at past halftime shows include Justin Timberlake, Aerosmith, Lady Gaga, U2, No Doubt, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, The Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay.
