Power Trip Frontman Dead At 35

Sad news in the world of thrash.

Riley Gale, frontman for the thrash metal/hardcore punk group Power Trip has passed away on Monday. He was 35.

His family wrote in a statement:

No word yet on what caused his passing.

The Dallas based thrash quintet formed in 2008 and have released two full-lengths, their latest being 2017’s Nightmare Logic on Southern Lord Records (Darkest Hour, High On Fire, Xibalba). Power Trip have performed with Ozzy Osbourne, Lamb Of God, The Black Dahlia Murder, August Burns Red, and Municipal Waste.

The second annual Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival is looking real good.

After already announcing Metallica as a headliner (who will headline two nights,) the Columbus, Ohio, rock festival have unveiled more artists for a stellar 2020 performance. Joining Metallica on the headlining slot is Slipknot, who will perform on Saturday night. Others playing are Code Orange, Royal Blood, Sublime With Rome, The Pretty Reckless, Flatbrush Zombies, Dance Gavin Dance, Hellyeah, Jinjer, Knocked Loose, and Ghostemane, as well as a mystery band. Check out the lineup below.

Tickets are on sale now and can be bought at sonictemplefestival.com. Sonic Temple takes place at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, from Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 17.

Sonic Temple first took place earlier this year and replaced the annual Rock On The Range, which started back in 2007 in Columbus. Bands and artists like Ghost, Pussy Riot, Hands Like Houses, Action Bronson, Movements, The Black Dahlia Murder, Teenage Wrist, The Glorious Sons, and Basement, performed at the first Sonic Temple back in May of this year.

Hot Water Music Announce New EP With Epitaph Records, Drop New Song

Post-hardcore legends Hot Water Music are dropping a brand new EP later this year called Shake Up The Shadows.

The five-track EP comes out May 24 via Epitaph Records (Culture Abuse, Falling In Reverse, THICK). It will be the band’s first release with the label since 2004’s The New What Next. It was recorded at Black Bear Studios in Gainesville, Fla., with producer Ryan Williams (Atreyu, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Vandals). The EP will also be Hot Water Music’s first batch of music to not be with Rise Records (Angels & Airwaves, Issues, Of Mice & Men), who they signed with back in 2011. Pre-orders are available now.

Hot Water Music also dropped a new song titled “Rebellion Song”. You can check it out on Epitaph’s YouTube channel.

Alpha Wolf Sign To SharpTone Records

Aggressive Australian five-piece Alpha Wolf have made the biggest step so far in their career, signing to American metalcore/rock label SharpTone Records (Crystal Lake, Emmure, Settle Your Scores).

“It gives us great pleasure to announce that we have signed to the mammoth SharpTone Records in a partnership alongside the lovely Greyscale Records,” the band wrote on Facebook. “We’ll be joining their already incredible family and couldn’t be more happy!”

Alpha Wolf’s signing with SharpTone is also part of a partnership with the band’s current label Greyscale Records (Belle Haven, Graves, Justice For The Damned), an Australian indie label.

Along with the signing, the band announced that new music will be out this coming Tuesday.

Formed in 2013, the band started originally as a deathcore band before changing to nu metalcore. The group have done shows with Thy Art Is Murder, The Plot In You, Deez Nuts, Make Them Suffer, and In Hearts Wake, as well as playing festivals like Invasion Fest 2017 with The Acacia Strain, Kublai Khan, and Eat Your Heart Out, Download Festival Melbourne 2018 with KoЯn, Good Charlotte, and Hot Water Music, and are scheduled to appear at Impericon Festival 2019 with Hollywood Undead, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Defeater. 

Alpha Wolf will be touring Europe next month as support for Emmure along with Rise Of The Northstar, Obey The Brave, and Fit For A King. Check out the tour dates below.
