Colonel Sanders Played Ultra Music Festival

Colonel Sanders Played Ultra Music Festival

Ready for some cringe?

Fast-food restaurant chain KFC bought a slot on the main stage at Ultra Music Festival yesterday to have Colonel Sanders perform. No, the real Colonel Sanders didn’t play (he passed away in 1980), but a DJ wearing a Colonel Sanders helmet appeared on the main stage dropping beats.

KFC made a tweet about the performance two days before Sanders took to the stage. “One thing a lot of people don’t know about me is that I have been a huge fan of electronic music for the last few days, and I can’t wait to show off the DJ skills I’ve developed in that time. SEE ME LIVE AT ULTRA on 3/29!”

The promotional stunt was met with mixed results from festival goers and DJs alike. In a since deleted tweet, Marshmello wrote, “This @kfc colonel sanders Djing at @ultra is lame. I can think of a lot of other artists that actually deserve to be on that stage instead.” Chicago duo Louis The Child also had negative thoughts about the event, saying to the festival on Twitter, “Given the platform you have as a major electronic festival, it would be nice if you used it to showcase what electronic music is about and not make it seem like a joke with corporate promotional nonsense.”

Other artists like Luca Lush, Alison Wonderland, Hunter Sigel, Zomboy, and Modestep went to Twitter to give their two cents on the subject.

Colonel Sanders was on the main stage, sharing the stage with acts like Tiësto, Alesso, and DJ Soda.
