Paul McCartney, The Front Bottoms, Metallica, More To Play Lollapalooza 2020

Not even COVID-19 can kill Lolla.

On Tuesday, the Chicago based music festival stunned everyone when they revealed that Lollapalooza was still going down, but things are different this time around. Due to the coronavirus running rampant across the country, Lolla 2020 is going to be virtual, taking place Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, on YouTube. And yes, it’s gonna be free.

The lineup features a wide range of acts, such as The Cure, Porno For Pyros, Jane’s Addiction, Paul McCartney, LL Cool J, IDLES, The Front Bottoms, A$AP Rocky, Tenacious D, and Metallica. “Original live performances” will take place over the four-day event and will include artists like H.E.R., The Neighbourhood, Vic Mensa, Alison Wonderland, and Louis The Child. Lolla 2020 will have special appearances from guests like former First Lady Michelle Obama, b-boy dancer Crazy Legs, Chuck D of Public Enemy, rapper PineappleCITI, and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Created back in 1991, Lollapalloza originally was Jane’s Addiction’s farewell tour. The festival ran until 1997 and came back in 2003. 2004’s festival was cancelled but it came back annually in 2005. Artists who’ve played the festival in the past include Siouxsie And The Banshees, Pearl Jam, Archers Of Loaf, Beastie Boys, Hum, Devo, The Prodigy, Queens Of The Stone Age, Dashboard Confessional, The Reverend Horton Heat, Jack’s Mannequin, Kanye West, The Gaslight Anthem, Lady Gaga, The Pretty Reckless, At The Drive-In, Kendrick Lamar, Skrillex, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Third Eye Blind, Highly Suspect, CKY, and Ariana Grande.

More Acts To Be Announced For Warped Tour’s 25th Anniversary Shows

If you didn’t think the lineups for the three 25th anniversary shows for Warped Tour were great already, it’s gonna get greater.

Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman took to Twitter to share some important news, saying that more bands will be joining the three shows. He wrote on Twitter, “We will be announcing more bands for all @VansWarpedTour shows on Monday 4/1. Also, look out for a special announcement regarding Atlantic City that day, something pretty awesome happened this morning!”

Earlier this month, Warped Tour announced the bands that will be playing at their anniversary shows in Atlantic City, N.J., Cleveland, Ohio, and Mountain View, Calif.. Bands like Emery, We The Kings, Hawthorne Heights, CKY, A Day To Remember, Blink-182, NOFX, Face To Face, Dance Gavin Dance, Frank Iero And The Future Violents, Andrew W.K., and Man Overboard will perform at various shows.

Warped Tour’s Lineups For Their 25th Anniversary Shows Have Been Announced

After months of waiting, we finally know who’s playing in Cleveland, Ohio, Mountain View, Calif., and Atlantic City, N.J. The lineups fluctuate between amazing and WTF. Here’s info on all three shows.

Cleveland

The midwestern date for Cleveland is a little lackluster, only featuring six bands in total. The bands playing are Chali 2NA & Cut Chemist, Emery, Hawthorne Heights, Peter McPoland And The Haps, We The Kings, and Simple Plan. But the show isn’t the main reason behind the Ohio date. The reason is that a special Warped Tour exhibit called Forever Warped: 25 Years of Vans Warped Tour at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. There will also be a mini vert ramp and an after party.

Atlantic City

Here’s where the fun begins. Late June shows Warped going to the beach in Atlantic City, N.J., giving us surf, sun, and so much music. Over 50+ bands will appear on the two days. Artists like 311, Man Overboard, Gym Class Heroes, CKY, Hidden In Plain View, Save Ferris, The Aquabats!, Blink-182, A Day To Remember, and Good Charlotte, will appear, among tons of other fine acts. Warped takes over A.C. beach from Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30. Check out the lineup below.

Mountain View

Warped will end it all in the state where it began. The final 25th anniversary show will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. from Saturday, June 20 to Sunday, July 21. Bands appearing include The All-American Rejects, Dance Gavin Dance, NOFX,  Lagwagon, Sum 41, Ariana And The Rose, Confide, Silverstein, Jawbreaker, and Street Drum Corps, plus tons of others. Ten Records To Look Out For On Record Store Day Black Friday

If you weren’t aware, this Friday, which is Black Friday, doubles as the second Record Store Day of the year. While you’re out trying to kill someone over a brand new TV, head on over to your local record store and buy some of these fine vinyl. Here’s 10 records you should get this Friday.

1. Weezer – “Africa” Picture Disc (3000 copies)

Earlier this year, Weezer dropped their cover of the classic Toto song “Africa” due to social media push. If you wanted your very own physical copy of the tune, the band will release 3000 copies of “Africa” on a picture disc shaped like the continent, just like the original single 7″ that Toto released back in 1982.

2. Various Artists – Stay Awake: Various Interpretations Of Music From Vintage Disney Films (3500 copies)

Wanna hear Sinéad O’Connor, The Replacements, Suzanne Vega, Ringo Starr, and Los Lobos cover classic Disney songs? Originally released back in 1988, this tribute album features various artists playing Disney songs their own way. The two LP vinyl features the songs in greater fidelity per side, and includes the CD-only track “Dumbo & Timothy” from Dumbo for the first time on vinyl. Songs from movies like Peter Pan, Melody Time, Snow White And The Seven Dwarves, 101 Dalmatians, and Babes In Toyland, also appear on the album. 

3. CKY – Too Precious To Kill (1500 copies)

This brand new EP by CKY features four new tracks from the band, with one being a cover of GG Allin’s “Bite It You Scum”. It’s a Record Store Day first, but get it while you can on Friday. 

4. Insane Clown Posse – The Amazing Jeckel Brothers (2375 copies)

Released back in 1999, The Amazing Jeckel Brothers is the duo’s fifth entry in their “Joker’s Cards” anthology. The album features hip-hop legends Snoop Dogg and Ol’ Dirty Bastard of Wu-Tang Clan, horrorcore duo Twiztid, ska band Gangsta Fun, and prank callers The Jerky Boys. This is the first time the album has been released on vinyl, and will be pressed on transparent red wax.  

5. Lookout! Records – The LookOuting! (1000 copies)

Hopeless Records (Afterlife, Between You & Me, Trophy Eyes) will release this double LP featuring songs from Lookout!’s The LookOuting Festival from January 2017. Classic Lookout! bands like Tilt, Squirtgun, Brent’s T.V., The Avengers, and The Mr. T Experience appear on the record. Only 1000 copies exist, so grab this one the second you see it before jackasses sell it for like $200 on eBay. 

6. Nothing – Blue Line Bady (1400 copies)

This three-song 12″ features a beautiful etching on the B-side. The song “Dirty White Glove” is a brand new track that’s never been released yet and “Spell” comes from the Tired Of Tomorrow sessions. Relapse Records (Author & Punisher, Iron Reagan, Torche) will release the album, but get it quick, only 1400 copies exist. 

7. Unwritten Law – Unwritten Christmas (2500 copies)

Happy Holidays from Unwritten Law. For Christmas this year, the beloved punk group will release this rare 7” containing two holiday songs. “Unwritten Christmas” featuring Sum 41 was issues an an Australian-only single, and their cover of the Charlie Brown classic “Please Come Home For Christmas”, which was from a KROQ holiday compilation that has Smash Mouth, Reel Big Fish, and The Suicide Machines.

8. The Smashing Pumpkins – Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. (???)

The new Smashing Pumpkins album will drop on vinyl Friday, but there’s no word of how many copies there will be available. Get it while you can.

9. Various Artists – Fritz The Cat (Original Soundtrack Recording) (2500 copies)

Do you remember the X rated film Fritz The Cat? It was the first animated feature to get that rating in the States. Directed by Ralph Bakshi (Cool World, The Lord Of The RingsWizards), the film had an incredible soundtrack consisting of Ed Bogas and Ray Shanklin, Bo Diddley, Billie Holiday, The Watson Sisters, and Charles Earland. It’s the first time the soundtrack has been pressed on a picture disc.

10. Various Artists – Mom+Pop 10 Year Anniversary Compilation (1800 copies)

2018 marks the tenth year anniversary for the beloved indie label Mom+Pop Music (FIDLAR, Neon Indian, Tokyo Police Club). To celebrate, the label is dropping a magnificent 3xLP containing rarities and covers of Mom+Pop artists done by artists on the label. Past and current signees like Courtney Barnett, Metric, Alice Merton, Sleigh Bells, and Ingrid Michaelson appear on the compilation. Hope you got some change left to buy this record.
